The Universal Underlayment for Tile and Stone
Plattsburgh, NY - January, 2006
Ceramic and stone tiles are durable, easy to maintain, and hygienic, representing the ideal surface covering. However, because the installation of hard surface coverings can be particularly challenging, an underlayment that performs multiple functions is essential.
Schluter-DITRA prevents the main cause of cracking of a tiled surface. It provides uncoupling through its open rib structure, which neutralizes the differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile.
DITRA also provides reliable waterproofing for installations that are not exposed to constant water pressure. For example, DITRA can prevent water from a leaky faucet or appliance from infiltrating the subfloor, effectively eliminating the potential for mold and mildew growth.
The interconnected air channels on the underside of DITRA provide a route for excess moisture and vapor to escape from the substrate, allowing it to breathe. This function is especially useful when tiling over fresh gypsum and mortar screeds, young concrete, and concrete subject to moisture migration.
Schluter-DITRA was created more than 17 years ago. Its performance has been verified through extensive laboratory testing and field experience, leading to over 100 million square feet of DTIRA installed worldwide.
Since the early 1970’s, Schluter-Systems’ exclusive purpose has been to develop solutions for ceramic and stone tile installations. By combining state-of-the-art technology, practical experience, and attention to detail, our systems protect the integrity of every tile installation, allowing for the application of this ideal surface covering on virtually any surface.
