DITRA-XL provides the same four essential functions as Schluter®-DITRA, i.e. uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management, and support/load distribution, but is 5/16" (7 mm) thick, whereas DITRA is 1/8" (3 mm) thick.

The increased thickness of DITRA-XL allows for even transitions between typical ceramic tile and 3/4" (19 mm) thick hardwood flooring.

The added thickness of DITRA-XL also increases the movement accommodation capabilities of the product. As a result, it allows for ceramic tile installations over single layer wood floors with 24" (610 mm) o.c. joist spacing.

How to Choose Between DITRA and DITRA-XL:

The choice between using Schluter-DITRA and Schluter-DITRA-XL depends on the nature of the particular project or application. The following points will help differentiate between the two products:

Schluter-DITRA:
• Minimizes tile assembly thickness and reduces transitions to lower surface coverings
(e.g. carpet, engineered wood, and vinyl).

Schluter-DITRA-XL:
• Helps provide even transitions between tile and 3/4" (19 mm) thick hardwood flooring.
• Allows for ceramic and porcelain tile application over single layer plywood/OSB
subfloors on joists spaced at 24" (610 mm) o.c.

Installers can now choose the membrane best designed to suit the needs of their specific project: DITRA or DITRA-XL.
