Waterproof and vaportight showers for Acadia University
A large residence hall at Acadia University in Wolfville, Novia Scotia was renovated in 2003. At the time, a trowel-applied waterproofing membrane and a 2-step drain were used in each of the building's showers. Renovations were completed in August, but after only four months water was leaking throughout the residence hall.
The University had to close down the facility, find other living accommodations for its students (which cost the school $20,000/day), and remodel all 49 residence showers. Hallways as far away as 18 feet had to be torn down and remodeled due to water damage from the showers.
A Schluter-Shower Kit was installed in each of the showers, and the students were able to move back into the building by fall. There have been no problems since.
